Cool tool: The Hat, for picking a name out of one

Tim's just ben using The Hat, a great wee tool (for Windows only) which allows you to pick a name out of a virtual hat. Great for shirking any responsibility for choosing Jimmy, again, to hand out the books.

The Hat is quite cool but it's a bit of a pain to have to load up another set of names for each class - you can use a macro in excel to pick a pupil at random from an existing excel list or register. A template can be found here; Find me a pupil

My HyperCard stack that runs my Color classic clock does that too, must flickr it.

I had a similar palm program too.

10 minute appleScript job for those deprived of windows I'd guess.
