Making the best out of a poor situation
Scottish trains are all over the place this morning, and I've been waiting over an hour in Edinburgh for my train through to Glasgow. It would have been quicker by coach, but I gave up playing mind games with myself about whether coach is better than train, whether x is quicker than y.
Traveling a lot, getting practice at it, means that you become less stressed by the missed meeting or the delayed connection. You do things like, for me this morning, getting an upgrade for free to first class with its coffee, newspapers and free wifi, to make the best out of a bad situation.
Is teaching with technology not a bit like this, too? The more practice you get at it (including when it doesn't work) helps you make the best out of a poor situation. How often, when you're technology fails you in the classroom, are you able to get the teaching and learning a free unexpected upgrade to first class? Why did I get this morning's upgrade but fellow delayed passengers did not?
Practice at the mistakes. That's all...

what's the best way to get that upgrade then? ;-) Just had to scramble to find a seat on the 0600 to London when the 0550 got cancelled. Will spend the longer journey considering tactics!

If you have a considerable delay it's worth saying that you'd not be making a claim for your 50% discount if only you could have the free wifi to juet get on with your work - then being late doesn't matter so much. And stay VERY polite.

Cheers Ewan - unfortunately it's all in vain and we were told to get off at Newcastle and go home as nothing was running between York & Doncaster :-(
I guess I won't make it to the Online Marketing Show after all!
I'll keep your advice in mind for next time though.
