Andrew Pass suggests some great questions to be asking our teenagers because, let's face it, in our office today no-one was able to work out why Pluto is no longer a planet. Much less a 'dwarf-planet' - is that not really un-PC? I suggest we all go an philosophise chez Andrew.
Andrew does a great job, thank you for pointing that out! I also have to think that this is an excellent case study for the effective use of wikibooks to supplement textbooks. How long will it take for textbooks to respond? How many years into the future will students be learning the "wrong" information? With our knowledge base effectively doubling every 7 years (or did I recently hear it is 4), how can we keep up and make education cutting edge. I think this is a prime example of how paper textbooks without Internet supplementation just fall short of providing a world class education.
Great post!
