Those of you who know me know that I multitask and use GTD to keep my personal and working life ticking over relatively smoothly. The downside is that sometimes it's tricky to find that work-life cut-off point. The upside is that you can sometimes save yourself a couple of grand in less than an hour.
As I worked on some LTS material this morning I spent 17 minutes 43 seconds on hold with Virgin Media (nice musak), to whom I have been paying a silly amount for threeplay (TV, Internet, Telephone). But I've just had my bills halved, to equal what Sky were tempting me with, saving about £300 a year - one of Richard Branson's kindly assistants even backdated some of my bills to keep me sweet.
Now, I've rattled off a letter to my mortgage company of old, Scottish Widows, with whom I parted company last month for a much cheaper mortgage from Lloyds (saving: £100 per month). It's to get back the £100 leaving fee they charged me but which, with new legislation, is probably easy to define as 'unnecessary' and 'overcharging'. Banks have to be careful when you use these words. Another saving.
Just by multitasking, speed typing and using the wonderful Martin's Money I've managed to save myself about £2000 in thirty minutes. Not bad, really, for half an hour's work.
Thanks for this info. I am going to save a fortune phoning my friends and relatives overseas using this link
